Okay, so. Several months into parenthood, and how is it?
Wonderful. Yesterday I unironically started crying because of how much I love him and how amazing it is when his little face lights up to see me.
He's just the cutest, and he's the sweetest, happiest baby ever. We're very lucky.
He doesn't cry all that much. He laughs and squeals and has become very vocal lately, but crying is pretty rare. Sometimes when he has painful gas, occasionally when he wakes up after a long sleep and is just so very hungry. He doesn't generally cry for very long, and when he does it's always gas.
He smiles a lot, at us and at extended family when he sees them. C and I were talking about his generally delightful demeanour, and we have a theory that it's a benefit of the numbers advantage having three parents. (C joked that it was the 3-to-1 numbers advantage that let us break the siege.)
Basically: Smol Son is accustomed to having all of his needs attended to very promptly. There's hardly ever not a parent in arm's reach, if not actively holding him. C is still taking the night shift, the baby is never waiting for someone to wake up and get out of bed to come to him.
He doesn't cry much, because he doesn't need to. He's come to make a range of "I have a problem" sounds that we respond to, and he's also learned the patterns of what indicates that we've identified the problem. Like if his nappy is uncomfortable, he'll grizzle, and then as soon as someone is unzipping his suit to check the nappy he'll stop complaining and start smiling again.
As any competent military strategist will tell you, numerical superiority is critical in combat operations.
It's amazing watching him grow. Both physically - literally how is he so big, he's over 70cm long already - and in terms of his capacity. Seeing him grasp an object for the first time when he'd never managed that before. He loves standing up if someone helps him balance, that's pretty new. The other day he replaced his dummy in his mouth himself for the first time ever.
He makes such wonderful faces.
So that's really a lot of my life lately.
Also I had the first of my annual "see if the cancer came back" scans. I have a followup with the oncologist, but they didn't call me with any urgent comments so I assume it's probably fine, I hope.

It is. He's sleeping on my chest right now.
One day he'll outgrow contact naps and that will be very sad for me but not yet.
