Our washing machine's gasket is torn and the laundry is mildly flooded.
I am choosing to perceive the good news that this happened a few weeks before we bring home a newborn, not, say, right after.

Has anyone sung the praises of a nappy service at you yet?
Once a week, they bring you a bag of clean nappies, and take away those from the previous week. Absolutely the best thing I got talked into for first child -- I think I used them for the first three months for each.

They haven't! But I'm willing to take theducks's word for it that they're not really a thing. I'm not too worried. Our new washing machine has a fifteen minute light wash setting to pre-wash the nappies to minimise stinkiness before we do the Proper Wash when we have enough to justify it. I figure running the 90 degree "Cottons Eco" wash should do nicely. (It's a really long cycle, weirdly, but we have solar so I'm not that fussed.)

Our dishwasher died when Avery was 12 days old. Super awesome fun times. Appliancesonline are the mvps and we had a new one in the next day

We got our new washing machine from them too. Also the new stove we're having installed, but the switch from gas to induction being potentially better for the baby is more of a bonus than the purpose. Still. Nice bonus!
They're very helpful! Our new washing machine is very nice and has already handled many loads of baby clothes.
We figured that the washing machine we had was quite old already and there's just no point in the next several years where being without a washing machine will be anything but a nightmare.

We switched induction too late last year for the same reasons.. but my goodness it was expensive.. $2800 for the cooktop, $130 to disconnect the gas, $740 for the electrical and $550 to cut the countertop to fit it💸

(I’ll add - we found the only people in Perth who will cut engineered stone countertop in a safe manner, with a negative pressure enclosure and wearing N100 and full PPE - everyone else was “ehh we spray some water, it’ll be fine” - let me know if you need a hookup, they don’t advertise)

Good to know!
We probably won't need the bench cut, but if you know of any good cabinetry people and/or a good cooktop installer we'd love to hear about them.
