Maybe it's a function of being an ideologue? You find fundy atheists convinced that any kind of faith is incompatible with science, something which is demonstrably not true. Did you read Crikey's piece which called Sheridan a numpty? That put a smile in my afternoon, even if the Zizek love was a bit too slavish.

No, but I will now. (I don't normally read Crikey, it's too likely to make my brain explode with rage.)

My only real experience of Zizek is last night's Q&A, and I think I'm not well-placed to form a judgement on him, on the grounds that he really, really strongly reminds me of a certain individual I find *really annoying*. Fervent, twitchy, unable to change topic until he's said everything *he* wants to say, and talky and talky and twitchy.

So... yeah, not entirely feeling serious love here? And all the Massive Ideas that were referred to in Q&A just aren't that novel to me.

Yeah, calling Sheridan a numpty is pretty much the only thing I agree with in that column. Although they did at least single out the Bush quote thing.

If Sheridan had the balls to write a column about his mistake, I would at least respect him, even if I doubt I will ever agree with him about anything at all on any topic, but I'm pretty sure he won't.
