So, I keep talking about my ~art~ - time to post some pictures.

First up, we have my first completed, complex painting:

The link above goes to its page on my not-updated-much-in-a-while Gallery page, where I put photos for display usually. The description there has details about media and paints used, but I figure most people aren't that interested.

Because I was proud of it, here's a detail shot on the wood panel texture:

And finally, one that brings the debut of a new tag, and also, the possibility of my totally embarrassing myself.

Since I've decided to learn to oil paint, and oil paintings require giving layers time to dry, and since, for a change, I thought this might be a nice idea *before* the painting was well under way, I'm going to try to remember to take progress photos of my first significant attempt at an oil painting as I go.

Here, then, is the first shot:

That's undertone painting - a very very lean mixture of Lamp Black paint, covering areas of the painting which are later intended to be dark. I painted it roughly even, then wiped away surplus paint in the areas that are supposed to be a bit less dark. The heavy brushmarks are deliberate for purposes of texture. (I dislike visible brushmarks and will be attempting not to show them on the upper layers of the painting.)

The central white area is going to be painted too, in Replacement Flake White, but because I got a little bit of black paint on that area, I'm going to let it dry some first, so as to cover that and not have the paints mix. The white area is supposed to be a stained glass window, eventually, and I'm trying for a somewhat luminous effect.

And that's that for oil paints today, I think.

I was JUST oil painting myself, as it happens :D (And made the world's worst picture, because I was basically making it up as I went along. But now I have some idea how they work!)

I do like your wood texture, very nice. I look forward to seeing more in progress shots!

Kira is currently very annoyed at me for typing this rather than letting her sit on my lap. Just so you know :)

Ooh, it's so fun to see things in stages! It is awfully revealing, though, especially since things usually look awful before they look good.
