Direct quote: "Mental trauma can be just as debilitating as physical injury."
This would be from Fallout: New Vegas.
So, I just picked up a surprise quest: try to persuade Corporal Betsy, First Recon, to seek treatment for emotional trauma. She and another soldier were captured, and before they could be rescued, a Fiend called Cook-Cook raped her.
Betsy's been refusing to get therapy because she doesn't want to look weak in front of the others for emotional crap, but her team are worried about her and the Lieutenant is frustrated because he really, really doesn't want to discipline her, but she's been behaving inappropriately - hitting on anything female that comes through camp, for a start. He's very clear that this is a manifestation of trauma and he's worried, not condemnatory or even disapproving.
I used a magazine to pass the Medicine check on this one, but now I kind of wish I'd taken a minute to talk to the rest of the squad about it more first (also an option). The persuasion element amounts to getting Betsy to see it as being just another injury that needs to be treated.
When you go tell the lieutenant that she's agreed to see Dr Usanagi, he expresses his gratitude for your words, because he didn't think otherwise she'd be willing to commit to long-term treatment. He then asks you to go let Dr Usanagi know she'll be coming, upon which Usanagi says the line above, about how mental trauma can be just as debilitating as physical injury.
In a video game.
It's just really kind of awesome.
My previous character has killed Cook-Cook. I'm looking forward to doing it on this one. Because in Fallout: New Vegas, bad people get shot in the head.

I really do like the game. (Hubby's playing it.) Do you have the gun that turns the people into goo? That seems appropriate for Cook-Cook as well.

Heh, no, that's plasma weapons, and I'm using guns. There is a certain appeal, yeah, but my plan more-or-less amounts to an intent to make his head explode, so that works okay.
Assuming I don't shoot his limbs off or something. Normally I'm not into the gruesome approach, but... there's a time and place for everything, including, possibly, killing dudes in as slow and unpleasant a way as game mechanics allow.
