yes, you've been metafandomed. And rightly so, this is a rather brilliant post. (I always imagine HAH typing one-handed in a masturbatory frenzy in those last books-- the ones with all the incest.)

Ah, that makes sense then.
In his defence, those books happened after he had a blocked artery cause oxygen starvation to part of his brain.
Other than that the only real defence for his character is that he was one of the first (if not the first, I'm not sure) major, big-name science fiction authors to feature non-white protagonists.
I try not to think about what he might have been thinking writing those, if only because Lazarus Long is such a Marty Stu and he travels back in time to bang his own mother and... gah. Basically.
And women! Even if most of those women are Marty Stus with uteruses...
As goofy as those last books were? They sure can teach a writer how to handle scenes where a five people are all talking at once. That's wizardry, that is.
