So, one of the things I realise I've left out lately: I sprained my ankle two days ago. It was this that propmpted the conclusion that, no, really, I just need to accept that I have Walking Problems at the moment, between the bung knee and now the sprained ankle (fortunately, I suppose, on the same leg), and so I need to be able to use one of my two remaining functional limbs to support the leg that's currently in near-total joint failure.

So yesterday, I acquired a cane. It's not very stylish, alas - I went for the one that was most comfortable in the hand to lean on, and the stylish ones tend to be less comfortable that way. (Even so, I think I'm going to pad out the bit you grip slightly, it's a little rough on my palm.)

I feel too young for this, but I can't deny it makes walking a lot less painful, and people seem more sympathetic, more inclined to get out of the way, less inclined to give me judgemental looks when I use alternatives to stairs. (Also, when a crowd of people was blocking my attempt to get off the damn train, I discovered that a walking stick is good for poking into gaps to indicate people should make them wider.)

Meanwhile, my primary external brain, e.g. my laptop, is still at the repair place, estimated to take "another two days". This is starting to annoy me. The problems with it are all hardware. To me, this means that either a component is fine, in which case you leave it, or not, in which case you replace it. Chas suggested they're probably "waiting for parts" - I kind of feel like this is not, under the circumstances, a good excuse. It's a recent-model stock Asus laptop at an Asus service centre. They should HAVE spare parts in stock, because needing to replace pieces of AN ASUS LAPTOP should not be something unexpected.

That, or they should be prepared, after a week, to just replace the bloody thing, copy your data across, and apologise for being so unprepared. I WANT MY COMPUTER BACK.

Time to do a hideous backlog of linguistics. *sigh*

Good choice: last time I went to the city I decided to try using the pretty duck-handled cane we own to see if it would help my legs from getting so sore, and it did...at the expense of my hands, which got sore duck-shaped dents in them.

They keep very little for inventory at the Computer Repair places in the States. Your part of the world is probably the same.
