"If you want to find a safe city, first determine the size of the immigrant population," says Jack Levin, a criminologist at Northeastern University in Massachusetts. "If the immigrant community represents a large proportion of the population, you're likely in one of the country's safer cities. San Diego, Laredo, El Paso—these cities are teeming with immigrants, and they're some of the safest places in the country."

And makes me feel even better about visiting San Diego.
Oh, I bet the mainstream media avoids publicising that.
(The tabloids being rabidly anti-immigrant here, people don't notice as much that the "quality" press is also run by people who think diversity is a problem.)

So much duh. Immigrants have more to lose if they mess up. They can't risk getting involved in crime. Which goes back to the self selection for the enterprising and law abiding and success oriented.
