hi, came here for the racefail, hope you don't mind if I stay to ask about your ADHD- would you mind telling me what kind of medication you're on?

Without some indication of why you want to know, yes.

I realise it's a really personal question to ask, I'm sorry I wasn't more sensitive when I asked in the first place with neither one of us knowing the other at all, and journals being such an odd combination of a private/public space... I just wanted to give you my reason for having asked seeing as you mention it in your reply, and looking again it seems to be the more courteous thing to do. I asked because people have suggested for me to go to a doctor to get help with my poor concentration and anxiety, and I've been wary of doing so, for a whole host of reasons, among them a general distrust of medication. I'd really appreciate anything you can say on the subject as I don't know anyone in rl who's dealt with something similar, and though I haven't looked online too seriously, I haven't found the results of basic searches particularly helpful. To reiterate, I'm sorry I asked you that question the way I asked it, and obviously if you like- me being a complete stranger and all, I can steer away from this topic and post. (oth, I can also give you my e-mail if you do have anything you want to say but would rather say it there). um. that's it? I'll just go and subject someone else to my awkwardness for a bit now... thanks, Sarah

Google is your friend (she says, some time later, possibly precluding the response that the anonymouse will even see this).
ADHD medication is generally stimulants, commonly some variation on the them of amphetamine salts. Don't let that scare you, if you actually have AD(H)D (for which you should get a proper diagnosis by a specialist). Because of the nature of the different neurology of people with these disorders, amphetamines don't quite have the same effect on us as they do on "normal" people - I take amphetamines, and they just make me calm and help me concentrate.
