About August 3rd, 2009

10:37 am
So, today I have kind of a to-do list of Doom. All this week I am likely to be drowning in uni work (fortunately, I have a planned mid-week de-stress break attending John's show again on Wednesday), so please forgive a possible lack of meaningful content/possible surge of essay spam.

Ticked off list: calling my bank and enquiring, politely, where in the holy hell my goddamn Visa debit card is. The answer: it never got ordered, somehow. Growl. But the phone service rep ordered it then and there and I am assured I will now get it in "seven to ten working days".

Still to do today: a lot of linguistics, a lot of history, attending two classes, going to town and picking up my new belt, and calling my computer's manufacturer's service line and complaining that it's not working properly. Chas has reminded me it's not urgent, but it's still really annoying, so I want to get that done. Unfortunately, my only real window for doing it is this morning, and I don't want to, but if I don't I won't be able to before at least Friday, so. *sighs and rings*

The real problem is that the line is only open until 6pm Sydney time, which means 4pm here, and if I don't call now - on Monday morning I don't have a class until 12 - I can't for the rest of the week because I'm generally not done with classes etc until 4pm most days.

... Okay, we'll see if this works: tech support dude is e-mailing updated audio drivers and a link for the problem with my optical drive.

I really really hope that this works, I really profoundly want this to be something I can just fix myself.

Appreciated: the tech support dude, having listened to my explanation of the problem that included details which indicate a basic competence with computers, despite my female voice, gave the impression of assuming I know what I'm doing, in general.

... of course, the link he sent me for the audio drivers doesn't work. *sighs and hits redial*

The guy I spoke to *then* was supposed to send me new links, but I don't have them...

*redials again* Now to wait through the hold queue while I get dressed, because I need to leave for uni soon. Fun times.

Also, I just picked up my glasses from the optometrists' - the frames I've been wearing for the last couple of years, with new lenses. While they were getting done I was wearing my newly-acquired spare pair, which already had the new prescription.

I hadn't realised until now how much I like these frames, and how noticable the difference was. Both pairs have similar lens shapes, with thin frames that don't even go around the bottom halves of the lenses. Both are light.

But my regular glasses have blue-green frames and the newer ones have steel-grey, and the arms are slightly differently designed.

And these are the ones that feel right, that look right where they're vaguely in my field of vision, that are me. It's like I got my face back.
