So, on the advice of my dear friend TRS80, I took the back plate off my laptop and, with Chas's help, cleaned out the fan. The fan wasn't actually that dusty, but while we were puffing around with my Giottis Rocket Air Blaster, a tiny ball of fluff was pushed back from the vent. Naturally, this was removed.
My computer is now running cool and well. The ridiculous excess heat, the fan forever at maximum power... gone.
TINY BALL OF FLUFF.
TINY.
AND MAYBE AN INFINITESIMAL AMOUNT OF DUST.
Still, at least I know what to do if the problem recurs. Also, my decision to buy a Rocket when I bought my DSLR? Totally correct, because it's an air-puffer with a valve to keep dust from being sucked back into the valve, and it's so very useful in so many ways.
Meanwhile, enticed by the description given by my friend Oliver, one of the games I bought on Steam last night was Plants vs Zombies. I played through the adventure mode, and have been having fun with the minigames and puzzle mode and survivor modes. But somehow, the most awesome thing of all is the "Zen Garden".
You grow plants. You take care of them. And then you can watch them while music plays quietly.
That's it.
And yet I love it.
The rest of the time, of course, you're using attack plants to fend off a zombie assault, which is also awesome.
