Comment replies will be forthcoming. Am, today, on edge of coping capacity.

Today's Sami Is Weird observation:
Is it just me, or does the Phaistos Disc look like a board game?

Either I need to start picking and choosing what topics to pay attention to, or I need to start posting at my Very Serious Blog, in the hopes that, in some fashion, I will eventually be able to cut down on my overwhelming backlog of open tabs.

Right now I rather lack motivation even to read them all.

Today I went on quite a long bus trip to get to Cape to Cairo in Osborne Park, only to discover that the thing I was yearning for - Tomato Sauce flavoured Simba Chips - was sold out. They had some other things, but only Simba Chips are gluten-free.

I bought some other stuff I wanted, but I'm still a little sadface at the lack of the chips I wanted. I did get a bag of samp. I put it on to soak earlier this evening.

For the non-African among you, samp is chopped/stamped up dried corn kernels. It's not ground up fine like mielie-meal, just... broken up. You soak it in water overnight, and then you can cook it up in umngqusho or other dishes.

Wikipedia says it's also eaten with chakalaka. I've only ever known chakalaka served with curry. Ah, Durban. Where Xhosa dishes are obviously served with Indian food - how else? What are you, weird?

Anyway. I don't like curry or chakalaka, because I'm a spice wimp, so I'm planning to cook it up with meat and vegetables and perhaps a few herbs. Of course, I need to pick up the ingredients. The last couple of nights I've had tuna with dinner, because I didn't have any other protein. Last night I intended to have eggs, but the eggs I thought we had in the fridge were nowhere to be found...

... however, looking for eggs, Oliver found another half-dozen-sized egg carton in the back of the fridge.

Which wasn't the one I was thinking of.

Upon examination, the marked expiry date was in February.

What makes this disconcerting is not that they're four-months-off-code eggs.

It's that we moved later than that. The fridge was moved empty - at moving time, someone unpacked the expired eggs from the fridge, carefully packed them, shifted them to this house, and then replaced them in the fridge. Additionally, when two separate people went through the contents of the fridge for things that should be tossed, both of them missed the expired eggs, apparently.

These are not particularly careless people.

These eggs are stealthy. It's the only explanation - they've made careful arrangements to disguise themselves, hide away and get here despite all odds.

We put them in the bin, but I fear they'll somehow find their way back into the fridge. These are tricksy eggs.
