An oddly frequent comment I see on blog/news posts about the Obama girls amounts to this:

"Man, those kids are adorable. I really hope the media leave them alone... but I also hope we get pictures of them, because seriously, they are so cute and so bright and so well-behaved and I kind of love them."

I share the ambiguity. I think the balance I want is that in their regular lives, they are left alone completely, but when they show up at official events, we keep getting things like "Most Adorable Moments" slideshows on HuffPo. (Seriously. Malia always has a digital camera out, keeping her own collection of photos of historic events which, quite possibly, she can compile into a book that will make her a fortune a few years from now. While Sasha is just *freaking cute*.)

It's genuinely uplifting to see President Obama making rapid and very real positive changes in the world already, thrilling on a very sensible, adult level.

But it's also just wonderful to see the Obama family. Two people who clearly love and respect one another, with children who are bright and well-behaved and clearly happy and confident in the love of their (loving and affectionate) parents.

The Obama family are disgustingly beautiful and wholesome and I love it.
