re: "Me: "hɔːtʰɹaɪdʰ""

I love the individual variation that makes the transcription of a passage so prone to variation. My own uttering of the final phrase would be more "hɔ(glottal stop sign which I can't be bothered accessing)ɹaed(unreleased- same deal with glottal stop, for diacritic, possibly even more of a bilabial - hahaha, labial)", this is assuming, of course, that I was attempting to pull off some kind of ubercool nonchalance whilst playing up my ability to mimic the poor speech of the common man.
Regardless of my interest in the area, at the same time I hate that people mark you wrong for transcribing heard speech as YOU hear it... I mean, it's not like they have an exact map of the articulatory movements for the word or phrase, and ESPECIALLY when you're transcribing without actually having seen the person uttering the utterance.... maybe my ears just aren't very good.

Also... no, getting into an essay on the shortfalls of IPA would be silly, as I have real work to do.

That is all for this particular rant, glad to get it off my chest.
