I will always intend to reply to all comments on this journal that haven't become part of someone else's discussion that's just taking place in a thread. However, if I don't have the time/energy/resources, I will reply late, or possibly not at all.

Return subscriptions

I am more likely to subscribe back if:

i) I know you
ii) We've had interaction online
iii) You post about things I'm interested in - which has crossover but not 1:1 correspondence with posts I make and interests I list on my profile
iv) You use capital letters and punctuation in your posts
v) including paragraphs - I am almost completely incapable of reading walloftext on a computer screen

I will be offended if you don't subscribe back to me if:

i) We are close personal friends

Who I am:

I'm in my late twenties mid-thirties, African-born and Australian-raised. Between intellectual curiosity and ADHD I'm interested in just about everything, but sustain interest in very little that doesn't have to do with history, linguistics, or music. I study the first two of those formally, and the third informally. I suffer from chronic pain and clinical depression.

What this journal contains:

Fanfic, fangirling, history, linguistics, politics, self-analysis, guitars, music theory, and random things I find interesting. No guarantees offered. Read at your own discretion.

Policies:

I insist upon respect in discourse in comments to my journal. You are allowed to disagree with me. You are allowed to disagree with other people who've commented. But do so with respect or I will yell at you, and possibly ban you. If you have a complaint about something I or someone else has said, please say so. This is designated a Safe Space for my issues absolutely, and a Safe Space for other people's to the best of my ability, but I can't guarantee I won't make mistakes about that one.

Subscribing to my journal is absolutely welcome, although I appreciate a note/comment saying hi. I am much more likely to subscribe in return if you introduce yourself, dependent on commonality of interests/etc. Access is also much more likely to be granted if I have some idea who you are, although most particularly if you are an Actual Friend; most locked content wouldn't be that interesting if we're not friends, anyway.

I am unlikely to subscribe to your journal if you don't use capital letters or punctuation, and almost certainly not going to do so if you make long posts with no paragraph breaks. I find all-lowercase text in large quantities trying, lack of punctuation confusing, and lack of paragraph breaks unreadable. (Literally unreadable. Walloftext is incomprehensible to me on a computer screen.)
