An e-mail exchange

From: Simpkins, Luke (MP)
To: [My full former name, including my middle name]

Dear [my former first name only]

I am writing to let you know that there is only one more day to get your submissions into the shotgun parliamentary inquiry into the Labor Government’s carbon tax.

The Gillard Government thinks it’s reasonable for Australians to review and comment on over 1,100 pages of carbon tax legislation in a matter of days, having only called for submissions in Saturday's papers.

Julia Gillard knows Australians don’t want this tax, which will cost jobs, drive up prices and hurt the economy, while doing nothing for the environment.

The Prime Minister is in denial of the facts and clearly doesn’t want the Australian people to have their say.

I urge you to make your views known by lodging a submission, no matter how brief, to

The Secretary

Joint Select Committee on Australia's Clean Energy Future Legislation

Parliament House

CANBERRA ACT 2600

Written submissions must be received by this Thursday, 22 September. However, due to the timing constraints I recommend emailing your submission to jscacefl@aph.gov.au.

‪Labor is already denying Australians a vote on whether or not to have a carbon tax; hopefully people will not allow Julia Gillard's tactics to silence them as well.

Yours sincerely

Luke Simpkins

Federal Member for Cowan

--- Reply ---

Dear Luke,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention - I was sick over the weekend and missed it.

I appreciate being made aware of the opportunity to voice my support for carbon pricing directly.

Yours sincerely,
[my former name, first and last only]

comments

E-mail of the Day/Status Update

E-mail of choice for today:

From: Sami
To: Dean

Subject: I have a message from my giant death robot

He wanted me to tell you something...

What was it?

Oh yeah

BOOM

[end]

( Context, if you really must. )

In not unrelated news, I'm not sure using a Giant Death Robot to attack Tokyo will ever not be hilarious.

GAMERA WILL NOT SAVE YOU NOW

Anyway, I've been quiet for the last week or two because, as it turns out, I was in fact very very sick. Sick enough that, when I started to recover, the answer to how I was feeling started with "lucid", because for several days, I really wasn't lucid at all. (Hence this post.) My delirium was odd, because it wasn't based on a fever as far as we could tell. Checking with an actual thermometer even revealed my temperature was up *maybe* half a degree from what I could recall was normal - and definitely not very high, given I didn't even break 37.

In a new category for Weirdest Symptom Ever - that hasn't quite cleared up - this illness also made my teeth hurt. I was, for a bit, mildly worried that I'd developed my first ever cavity or something, and this was actually the proverbial toothache, but then I decided that toothache from tooth decay probably didn't come and go at random points all over one's jaw. I have 29 teeth*. At various points over the last couple of weeks, every single one of them has hurt, singly or in groups.

* - Yes, I know the nominal tooth count for adults is 32. I have 29. Three molars were removed because there wasn't room for them. There's no spare space in my mouth. I don't have the faintest idea where Nature thought three more teeth could fit.

comments
